Social engineering attacks are among the most dangerous type of cyber threat. Things like phishing emails, fake phone calls and targeted scams can fool even the most savvy user. However, with good training and careful protocols, most social engineering attacks can be stopped before they wreak havoc on your network.
Unfortunately, schools and municipalities seem to be getting fooled by social engineering attacks more than most organizations. According to a recent report, public organizations and the education sector rank #1 and #3 worst allowing data breaches due to social deception.
Why are schools and government organizations doing so poorly in thwarting social attacks? The report doesn't say for sure, but we can venture a guess. Perhaps its time that schools and local governments update their policies and conducting better raining to thwart these types of attacks.
